Gasoline from carbon dioxide is not science fiction

Posted by keelynet on July 19, 2009

This needs to be pushed bigtime.

co2108“Rom: How do [you], the [dept. head] and your team from the Department of Environmental Chemistry, produce fuel from carbon dioxide?

Prof. Dobies?aw Nazimek: We used a form of artificial photosynthesis, a chemical reaction during which water and carbon dioxide, in the presence of a catalyst and under the influence of deep ultraviolet, turns into methanol. Also concurrently is the thermal separation and synthesis of MTG (with methanol in petrol). We get synthetic hydrocarbons with practically no difference from the [native] substance, which [can run] cars. This 108-octane fuel is clean and environmentally friendly.

You can do this inexpensively?

In Poland, with [traditional methods] it cost about 40 cents to obtain 1 liter of methanol from methane. Our method allows to obtain the same effect at 9 – 11 cents; so to produce a liter of gasoline goes from forty to just a few cents. It is impossible to estimate how much you will pay for such fuel at the station, but the price should be competitive.

So you know how to produce cheap petrol on a large scale?

Yes. We developed a [repeatable] method by which [a factory can] produce fuel from CO2. Anywhere that carbon dioxide is emitted [in volume], you can build such a facility and sell petrol.

How much will this limit emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere?

Calculations indicate that the technology will help to reduce CO2 emissions in its first year by about 25 percent.” – Source

Lawsuit – Baldwin Biofuels entrepreneur to pay $10.4 million

Posted by keelynet on July 19, 2009

Again, but does the technology WORK?

“Montrose resident Jack Boykin spent years pitching a revolutionary invention to produce cheap biofuel from vegetable matter — a process so fantastic is seemed, to some, just too good to be true. On Monday, a federal jury in Mobile determined it was too good to be true, and ordered Boykin’s company to pay more than $10.4 million to a New York-based paper company that invested in the endeavor.

Boykin vowed to move forward with his process, which he still maintains works. His attorney, Forrest Latta, repeatedly described America as the Saudi Arabia of trees and cropland, and said Boykin’s process has the potential to transform the world.

Found liable – The jury found Cello Energy and the partnership that owned it, Boykin Trust, liable for $2,827,123 for breach of contract with Parsons & Whittemore, which owns a pair of pulp mills in Monroe County. The jurors also held the companies, along with Boykin and his son, Allen Boykin, personally liable for another $104,537.50 for committing fraud against Parsons & Whittemore. The jury also assessed $7.5 million in punitive damages against all of the defendants.” – Source

Beware – Untangling Stimulus Strings

Posted by keelynet on July 19, 2009

Man, if you want to lose control of your invention or work, this is the way to do it…

“Clean-tech clients eager to compete for stimulus funds are learning fast that government money doesn’t come without quite a few strings attached. A few examples:

The government has free license to anything you invent with stimulus money.

The government can take that license and give it to your competitor if that company can make the final product cheaper than you can.

If you license your invention to a third party to produce a product, it must be made in the United States.

And if you violate any terms of your stimulus funds contract, you could be accused of fraud and possibly go to prison.

Government contracts mean more red tape to explain to clients. That’s not necessarily a roadblock, lawyers said, but clients will need good compliance infrastructure as they go down that road. The regulations mean more paperwork and cost controls than commercial contracts.

Companies must document what they invented before they received government money or risk losing rights to that IP. And when they invent something with government money, they must inform the government promptly.

They must use their invention, or risk the government seizing title to it. James Clessuras, who leads the technology transactions practice in Wilson Sonsini’s D.C. office, said one thing he particularly warns clients about is the government’s rights to use any inventions for its own purposes, which means it can decide to pay a competitor to develop the product.

There are scores of rules other than Bayh-Dole. The stimulus bill requires that companies track and report how many jobs their projects create. If a company accepts a certain amount of money, it will have to report how much its executives earn. Costs have to be strictly controlled. No alcohol and no entertaining on taxpayer money.” – Source

Russians beat USA to the Moon

Posted by keelynet on July 7, 2009

This annoys me, when it turns out someone cheated to hide the real facts in order to take credit or help others take credit.

spaceluna15108“A previously unheard recording of a Russian spacecraft attempting to beat NASA’s Apollo 11 in 1969’s race to the moon has been released.

The recordings from Jodrell’s Lovell radio telescope, which were hidden in archives until researchers found them, show the Russian craft orbited the Moon and crash-landed onto its surface at 15:50 on July 21 – just a few hours before the Americans lifted.

In the newly released recordings, which were made over three days, Sir Bernard, the founder of Jodrell Bank, can be heard narrating events with conversation from the Apollo 11 astronauts in the background. Sir Bernard notes a change in the orbit of Luna 15 to take it closer to the US landing site and later reports a rumour from a “well-informed source in Moscow” that the craft is about to land.

People in Jodrell’s control room can then be heard shouting “it’s landing” and “it’s going down much too fast” as they track Luna 15’s final moments before it crashes. A voice is later heard saying: “I say, this has really been drama of the highest order.”” – Source

Vapster ‘Green Mileage Maker’ Fuel Saver passes tests

Posted by keelynet on July 7, 2009

Finally, one of these things pans out.

carbvapster108“Patent-pending device uses an electrical heater rather than exhaust to pre-heat the fuel, resulting in improvements in mileage by 20-30%, as well as a reduction in emisisons by 80%, confirmed by a Florida university.

Combined with hydroxy devices, the improvement in mileage goes as high as 45%. The newest product, the “Green Mileage Maker”, has been shown to increase highway fuel mileage by 20-30% by pre-heating the fuel.

Some of the vehicles that sport the device are a 1999 Ford Explorer, a 1993 Mazda MX6, a 2001 Ford Ranger, 2007 GMC Canyon, 3.7 liter. The newest addition will be a Ford 350 with a 7.3 L diesel engine.

A South Florida University has shown exhaust emission reductions on diesels with the device up to 80%. See test report below. While Gerald was at the HHO Games in Bradenton, FL in Feb. 09, displaying his “Green Mileage Maker”, a pre-heater for fuel injector engines, he met many people involved with Hydroxy generators that inject electrolyzed hydrogen and oxygen into the air intake for improved mileage efficiency.

Mr. Rowley’s invention pre-heats the fuel before it enters the engine. Gerald selected an HHO system that was simple and straight forward and easy to install. By combining the two systems Mr. Rowley said he was able to increase his fuel mileage by 45%. Gerald encourages all the HHO enthusiasts to consider installing a “Green Mileage Maker” along with their own Hydrogen generator.

How it Works – The Vapster unit pre-heats the fuel, which enables it to burn more efficiently. Earlier units used the exhaust to do that, but it was hard to hit and maintain the right temperature, so now the units are fitted with an electrical heater. Installation can be done by anyone with nominal auto mechanical ability.

Gerald says that in testing the mileage he uses the standard method of topping off his tank, and calculating the miles driven per gallons added. He tries to get a good number of baseline tests “before” the changes are made, as well as a good number of tests “after.” In his Mazda, he has a one-gallon fuel tank in addition to the regular fuel tank, which he switches to for testing.” – Source

Two Atomic Cars

Posted by keelynet on July 7, 2009

If they can find the right shielding, its is possible for such things as atomic powered cars, busses, airplanes, boats, etc..

Ford Nucleon

carnucleon108“The Ford Nucleon was a nuclear-powered concept car developed by Ford Motor Company in 1958. The design did not include an internal-combustion engine, rather, the vehicle was to be powered by a small nuclear reactor in the rear of the vehicle.

The vehicle featured a power capsule suspended between twin booms at the rear. The capsule, which would contain a radioactive core for motive power, was designed to be easily interchangeable, according to the performance needs and the distances to be travelled. The passenger compartment of the Nucleon featured a one-piece, pillar-less windscreen and compound rear window, and was topped by a cantilever roof.

There were air intakes at the leading edge of the roof and at the base of its supports. An extreme cab-forward style provided more protection to the driver and passengers from the reactor in the rear. Some pictures show the car with tailfins sweeping up from the rear fenders. The drive train would be integral to the power module, and electronic torque converters would take the place of the drive-train used at the time.

It was said that cars like the Nucleon would be able to travel 8000 km (5,000 miles) or more, depending on the size of the core, without recharging. At the end of the core’s life, it would be taken to a charging station, which research designers envisioned as largely replacing gas stations.

The car was never built and never went into production, but it remains an icon of the Atomic Age of the 1950s, when concerns and dangers such as radiation poisoning, nuclear waste and the possibility of nuclear meltdown were not completely understood or acknowledged.” – Source

Cadillac World Thorium Fuel Concept

carthorium108“The Cadillac World Thorium Fuel concept. Otherwise known as the Cadillac WTF. Created by Loren Kulesus, everything about the WTF has been created to last 100 years without maintenance. That’s the reason for the element number ninety, thorium: to act as a nuclear fuel powering batteries that would power the car.

Elsewhere, every major system is redundant in case of a failure. And the wheels don’t have individual tires – in fact, what’s located at each corner is one combined unit made up of six individual wheels. That gives you 24 wheels in total, and each wheel has its own induction motor.

Said Kulesus, “The vehicle would require the tires to be adjusted every five years, but no material would need to be added or subtracted.”” – Source

Media’s overselling of Jacksons Death

Posted by keelynet on July 7, 2009

Congressman Pete King feels that we should be honoring the good men and women of our country who have dedicated their lives to helping others and serving our country not Michael Jackson.

(Exactly, I read that one day 93% of the news was devoted to Jackson, incredible, he is dead, it’s done, a couple of days and GET OVER IT PEOPLE and get back to real news and events!

As a reality check, King does present a great question, ‘would you leave your young son, nephew or grandson alone in a room with Micheal?’

He sang, he danced, he’s dead, so is Elvis, James Brown, Michael Hutchence, Buddy Holly and a host of other ‘entertainers’. No more cults around dead famous newsmakers please! – JWD) – Source

UFO collided with Tunguska Meteorite to save Earth?

Posted by keelynet on July 2, 2009

Always interesting when there are trace materials on a site and the theory is intriguing. Though I think they are way out when claiming its a UFO and occupants sacrificing themselves to save the earth.

Not to mention the totally unfounded theory about it being part of some alien navigational system.

But then, with UFOs and the people who make their money from the subject, sensationalism and outright untrue statements are often used to draw attention to a theory.

ufoquartz“Aliens downed Tunguska meteorite to protect our planet from devastation, stated Russian scientist Yuriy Lavbin about the 100 year old mystery surrounding the massive Siberian explosion. He showed 10 quartz crystals that he found at the place of the meteorite’s crash. Several of the crystals have holes in between, so they can be united in a chain.

– What could this chain serve for? Besides, some crystals have strange drawings on them. We don’t have any technologies that can print such kind of drawings on crystals. We also found ferrum silicate that can not be produced anywhere, except in space”, – the scientist stated.

The meteorite’s crash took place a long time ago, in the summer of 1908. An enormous volcanic ball rushed over the sky with terrifying wallop and thunder-like sound. All the citizens were frightened to death and scared to move out of their houses. A flight of a “flamy alien” ended up in an hour in the deserted taiga area. In a matter of seconds an explosive wave spread for 40 kilometers, devastating everything living around.

It was not until many years later that a Siberian scientist set up an expedition to the place of the meteorite’s crash. They searched carefully through the river banks and found unusual quartz boards. Mr. Lavbin states that such solid stones do not exist on our planet Earth. He told of an experiment that was done on the crystals: scientists tried to put some of the same drawing that were on the stones initially with a sophisticated laser machine.

How surprised they were to realize that the laser (that usually cuts metal objects into pieces) managed to put just some faint stripes, barely visible. The stones, have an entire system of different lines and circles on them. Scientists suppose that the stones used to be a part of the navigational system of a spaceship. All stones united form a map, which they could have used to cruise through the Universe.” – Source

Revenge of the Chinese Chickens

Posted by keelynet on July 2, 2009

Thought this was a novel way to stay within the law and yet protect your animals.

chickenrevenge“Chinese farmers are trapping eagles and other birds of prey and throwing them into poultry pens so that the chickens can wreak their revenge on them.

The farmers say the trussed-up eagle is so frightened of poultry after the experience that they never return to hunt them. Farmers have complained for years about eagles stealing their chickens but face fines or even jail if they kill the birds.

So instead they have come up with the idea of catching but not killing them to avoid incurring any penalties. They say after the trussed-up birds is freed it never returns – while the chickens also learn self defense against the birds of prey.” – Source
