Rednecks in Mexico
Posted by keelynet on June 10, 2009
A couple of days ago, I was walking towards one of my favorite cantinas and noticed this totally weird motorscooter parked at the corner.
It was a Vespa type scooter which are called here, ‘motonetas’, that had the rear drive chopped up and a dual wheel frame welded to the Vespa body. Too fun to ignore so I took photos.
When I went in the bar, turned out it belonged to a crippled drinking buddy. This guy I think was born with withered legs so he uses two crutches to get around. He is always laughing, smiling and joking around.
I asked him if that was his moto outside and he said yes, then offered to sell it to me for $200 (2000 pesos). He said he needed the money more than the moto.
I was so tempted just to have it to play around with, but even though I could easily have put it in my truck, I decided I don’t need any more junk though this one could be fun for beer hauls.
We joked around and talked awhile I ended up talking with someone else. I didn’t get a chance to see my crippled friend leave but I wanted to see how he maneuvered on this modified scooter, but missed the chance.
As you can see from the photos, there are definitely rednecks in Mexico!
