Strange Lifting Force Used in Novel Airship (Jan, 1931)

A fascinating claim but there is evidence that such an inertial force could actually move an object in ANY direction, including UP if you can throw enough weight, fast enough to keep it jumping.

Remember the story about Baron Munchausen sinking in quicksand and pulling himself out of a swamp by jerking over and over on his bootstraps?

“WHAT is certainly the most unique airship in the world is now under construction in the form of an experimental model in the factory of its inventor in Denver, Colorado. As depicted on these pages, the extraordinary ship will use neither propellers nor gas to keep it in the air, but will depend on a mechanism which its inventor, Edgar R. Holmes, calls the “gyradoscope”. Each horsepower of gyradoscope is expected to lift 1,000 pounds vertically in midair and sustain the load at any desired elevation by regulating the speed, and the inventor expects a machine weighing 2,000 pounds to lift 500 tons. Briefly, the gyradoscope combines gyroscopic action with centrifugal force. As described in the prospectus of the company, the gyradoscope consists of two wheels rotating in opposite directions in the same plane. Each wheel has several weights, the arms of which are connected to eccentrics on each wheel, which propel the weights in opposite directions in such a way that a lifting effect is exerted when the weights are at the top point of travel. The exact mechanism by which this effect is produced is somewhat obscure, but a model of the device already built has been bolted to the floor of a freight elevator, it is claimed, and succeeded in raising and lowering it with ease. In this test a 20-horsepower gasoline engine furnished power. Lifting force exerted by the gyradoscope is likened to that of a ball thrown on the end of a string. The weight of the ball at the moment it draws the string taut exerts a lifting effect on a pencil or other object to which the bottom of the string may be tied. In the gyradoscope the moving weights on the wheels are analogous to the thrown ball. To a casual scrutiny the whole idea seems very much like lifting one’s self by one’s boot straps, but the success attained with models indicates that the inventor may be successful in developing an entirely new type of aircraft. Forward motion is to be supplied by a gyradoscope in horizontal plane, and steering will be accomplished by a similar mechanism. In case of accident to the lifting gyros, which would result in the ship’s dropping like a plummet, auxiliary machines are provided which are kept running at idling speed ready to be called upon in an emergency.
Four hydraulic landing feet, one on each corner of the ship, absorb the shock of landing, which is expected to be insignificant since rate of descent is controlled by speed of the gyradoscope. Mr. Holmes, inventor of the gyro-ship, also has the invention of a popular front wheel drive for autos to his credit, as well as a four wheel drive and a caloric steam engine. This latter machine would supply the power for the airship. As developed by Mr Holmes, waste heat from oil combustion is used in the caloric engine to convert water into steam, which drives a turbine, and is then condensed to be used over again. / (This is a ‘kinemassic’ inertial drive mechanism and is best known with the invention of the Dean Drive. – JWD)” – Source

One could just as well call these devices ‘jerk drives’ because that is how they operate. A rapid succession of weighted jerks in the preferred direction will drag the attached mass with it.

The motion of a rotating weighted mass in a slightly off balance circle which is called ‘apsidal’ and which has been mentioned many times with regard to inertial drive systems.

This inertial, unidirectional force is most famously referred to as ‘apergy’ in an old book by the name, ‘The Annotated Journey in Other Worlds’. It is described as;

An Illustrated science fantasy describing the use of ‘apergy’ as a propulsive force. Much akin to what today is called ‘inertial propulsion’. Many devices have been built using this principle as well as patents granted, most notably, the Dean Drive, Cook and Thornsen drives. Often science fantasy and science fiction is used to propose concepts beyond the science of the time. Building a Miniature Magnetic Earth

I sent this scientist an email about a possible correlation to Schappaller’s glowing magnetism device which also used a metal sphere to mimic earth’s magnetic field.

“There was an interesting story on NPR this morning about a geophysicist who has constructed a miniature earth to model the earth’s dynamo effects. Dan Lathrop, a geophysicist at the University of Maryland, has constructed a 10-foot diameter stainless steel sphere. He intends to fill the sphere with molten sodium and spin the sphere to examine the propensity for the system to generate its own magnetic field. The article includes both video, in which Lathrop spins up the sphere, and audio, including the conversion of magnetic wave functions in prior experiments into audible sound: literally the music of the spheres.” – Source

The Physics of the Primary State of Matter – by Carl Schappeller

…in this copy of this very rare book, published in the 1940s, Karl Schappeller described his Prime Mover, a 10-inch steel sphere with quarter-inch copper tubing coils. These were filled with a material not named specifically, but which is said to have hardened under the influence of direct current and a magnetic field. With such polarization, it might be guessed to act like a dielectric capacitor and as a diode.

Schappeller described what he calls ‘The New Technique’. The important fact from the point of view of the New Technique is that the only source of primary magnetism is glowing core of hydrogen energy, or the primary magnetism as force is magnetism in the glowing state, or glowing magnetism, which is the Primary Force, or if we must use the present terms, the atomic force, the chemical composition of which is a hydrogen energy core interacting through mobility with its complementary cold oxygen energy stress field, the physics of which has already been explained.

The fulcrum or basis of the New Technique based on the physics of the Primary State is thus the production of a core of glowing magnetism, the greatest available force within the reach of man, and in the Cosmos the great creative origin-force in all Nature. In the cosmos we learned that the essential factor to the formation of a glowing core was the establishment of a magnetic point of inequality in the otherwise latent homogenous stress field.

Obviously, we have not the same faculties as are available in the cosmos, and so the crux of the whole problem in the New Technique is this forming of a point of inequality in the ether, under such conditions that a glowing hydrogen core, or glowing magnetism, will form as a space-form impression entity and be maintained as such.

Primary magnetism, or a glowing hydrogen core of energy, is always spherical, because it forms radially concentrically on the point of inequality. It is therefore clear that the first technical problem we have to solve is: what form of technical appliance is there which will put a spherical stress on any given point in the ether?

The stress must, of course, be magnetic or electromagnetic in quality and thereby exert a suction on the ether on and to this point so that the surrounding ether will be drawn in, catalyzed, and finally radiated out as a stimulated stressfield which can be made to “perform work” of all kinds, just as the electric current is now used to produce mechanical power, light, heat and electrolysis for all forms of industrial purposes.

There is a similar medical application to healing, radiology, diathermy and electrotherapy through ionization of the particular salts or drugs required by any given condition of the body, and multifarious other applications. The idea of an energy continuum throughout space occurred to Dirac. On the basis of his theory, matter particles emerge from a ground state and become PHYSICALLY OBSERVABLE. Material ABOVE the ground state has a HIGHER ENERGY than the ground state and so REQUIRES ENERGY to be dislodged.

The energy corresponds to the total energy of the particle, its mass energy (mc^) and other potential or kinetic energies. The theory, then, supposes that matter is OF the substance of the ground state, that is, “empty space”.

In comparison, the Lodge theory supposes that the ether has a MAXIMUM of energy, and matter particles are a LOWER ENERGY precipitate FROM the ether. The same idea, but a difference of SIGN. However, this implies that the appearance of matter is A PREFERRED state, and that the creative process is a NATURALLY OCCURRING condition.

Heisenberg, in formulating the “unified field theory”, assumed a space fabric of some nature. To quote from the Lindau Conference, 28th June 1962. “The discovery shows that the different elementary particles are NOT Nature’s building bricks, completely independent of each other, but MANY DIFFERENT FORMS of a FUNDAMENTAL SUBSTANCE manifest AS energy”. From then on, the “fundamental substance” is forgotten.

“The multiplicity of these forms corresponds to the multiplicity of the mathematical symmetries of the basic equation”.

Sir Oliver Lodge imagined the space fabric as having a microcellular structure, each cell being a vortex whose size was of the order of the size of the fundamental particles, or even SMALLER.

The medium was FRICTIONLESS and the rotational velocity of the vortices related to the velocity of light. The intrinsic energy of the ether was in the motion in the vortices. This attributed an ultimate energy source TO SPACE ITSELF.

Lodge also imagined that the ether had an ENORMOUS INERTIA and DENSITY. The inertia in mass WAS DUE TO THE ETHER IN IT, and solidarity of matter was VIRTUAL.

A similar idea occurred to Karl Schappeller of Castle Aurolzmunster in Inviertel, Austria (died 1947). According to his philosophy, a change in space fabric (static potential) gave rise to so-called primary magnetism which may be interpreted as a type of AUTO-GRAVITATION.

This primary magnetism caused a gathering of the surrounding space fabric and FROM IT issued more fundamental energy as an INTENSIFICATION of the primary magnetism.

At a certain stage, the system reached an EQUILIBRIUM GATHERING space fabric, and FROM IT PRECIPITATED ENERGY. When the energy DENSITY reached a required level, matter would be PRODUCED. The system would take up a spherical form in the “natural” state and become what Schappeller called “glowing magnetism”.

Glowing magnetism, he claimed, constituted the core of all planets and suns, the gravitational core of which was DUE to the glowing magnetism AT ITS CORE.
